🩵 About Muscovy Ducks

Muscovy ducks are a calm, hardy, and quiet breed originally from South America. Unlike most ducks, they are not descendants of the Mallard and are prized for their gentle nature, pest-control ability, and lean gourmet meat.

  • 🕊️ Quiet: They hiss instead of quack.

  • 🌿 Natural Foragers: Excellent at eating flies, mosquitoes, and weeds.

  • 🍗 Dual Purpose: Great for both eggs (60–120 per year) and flavorful meat.

  • 💧 Easy Keepers: Thrive with access to fresh water and open space.

🍼 Feeding Schedule

🐣 0–2 Weeks (Starter Stage)

  • Feed: Non-medicated waterfowl starter (20–22% protein).

  • Add brewer’s yeast for niacin.

  • Keep water shallow and clean.

  • Maintain brooder temperature at 85–90°F.

🐥 3–6 Weeks (Grower Stage)

  • Switch to grower feed (16–18% protein).

  • Offer small greens (chopped lettuce, peas) and mealworms.

  • Introduce short outdoor time in warm weather.

🦆 7 Weeks and Older (Adult Stage)

  • Feed: Layer or waterfowl pellets (16% protein).

  • Add cracked corn, vegetables, and grit.

  • Supply oyster shell for laying females.

  • Allow for free-range foraging—Muscovies thrive outdoors.
