Black Sex Link chicks have single combs and clean, yellow and black legs and feet. They are primarily black and can be color sexed with males being identified by a white spot on the top of their heads, while females have no spot. Adult males are black and white barred; similar to Barred Rocks, with the exception of a small amount of gold plumage that may appear on the hackles. Adult females are solid black with some gold hackles and front neck plumage. Black Sex Links were developed in the 1950's by crossing a Rhode Island Red male with a Barred Plymouth Rock female for efficient brown egg production and ease of sexing.
