🪶 Breed Description

Black Sex Link chicks are known for their efficient brown egg production and easy color-based sexing. They have single combs and clean yellow and black legs. Chicks can be identified at hatching — males have a white spot on their heads, while females do not.

As adults:

• Males resemble Barred Plymouth Rocks, with striking black-and-white barring and touches of gold plumage on their hackles.

• Females are solid black with hints of gold on the neck and chest.

Developed in the 1950s by crossing a Rhode Island Red rooster with a Barred Plymouth Rock hen, this breed combines excellent egg production, hardiness, and gentle temperament, making it a favorite among backyard poultry keepers.
