🪶 Breed Description

Red Sex Link chicks are prized for their exceptional brown egg production and reliable color-based sexing at hatch. They have single combs and clean yellow legs, making them easy to manage and identify. Sexing is simple from day one — female chicks hatch red or reddish-brown, while male chicks are lighter in color, often white or pale yellow.

As adults:

  • Males are mostly white or light-colored and are typically raised for meat rather than egg production.

  • Females mature into rich red or mahogany-colored hens and are among the most productive brown egg layers available.

Red Sex Links are commonly developed by crossing Rhode Island Red or New Hampshire Red roosters with silver-colored hens, such as White Plymouth Rocks. The result is a hardy, calm, and highly productive hybrid that performs well in both backyard flocks and farm settings.

Their friendly temperament, strong laying consistency, and adaptability to both heat and cold make Red Sex Links a top choice for families, beginners, and high-production egg operations alike.
