The front of their neck, breast, body and back is white. The main tail is black with the coverts being laced with golden buff. They are considered a dual-purpose bird that lays brown eggs, but they are mainly kept for their unique appearance. Brahmas originated in India from a cross between Malays and Cochins and were originally known as Chittagongs, Gray Shanghais and Brahma Pootras.
